# The Site Rebuilder

Give it the link to your own website and a few minutes later you have the homepage rebuilt as fresh code that runs on your own computer.

## What you get

**You lost the code behind your website. Or you want a copy to play with.**

The Site Rebuilder fixes that.

You give it the address of your own website.

It opens the page in a browser. It studies the layout, the fonts and the pictures.

Then it writes a fresh project that looks the same.

It runs on your own computer.

A simple homepage takes a few minutes.

A developer would spend days rebuilding this by eye.

**The kit is free. You pay only for your normal Claude usage. About 15 minutes.**

## One thing to know

It rebuilds one page per run, not the whole site. It works best on simple sites.

Links in the copy point back to your live site. The hidden search data (called JSON-LD) is not copied.

You get code on your computer. It is not a published website.

**Use it on your own site only.**

## Who this is for

You own a website and you lost the code. Or you want a fresh copy to play with.

## What you need

- Claude Code
- Node 24 or newer (Node runs the project. Free from nodejs.org)
- git (a tool that downloads code)
- The Claude in Chrome extension, signed in to the same Claude account

## Set it up

### Step 1: Get the kit

Downloads the template into its own folder.

```
git clone https://github.com/JCodesMore/ai-website-cloner-template.git
cd ai-website-cloner-template
```

### Step 2: Install it

Sets up the project. Scary-looking audit warnings are harmless.

```
npm install
```

### Step 3: Connect a browser

Open Claude Code in this folder. Check that the Claude in Chrome extension shows as connected.

**The skill stops without a browser.**

## Use it

In Claude Code, type this with your own address:

```
/clone-website https://yourwebsite.com
```

It shows you its plan first. Say yes.

When it finishes, start it with `npm run dev`. Open the local address it prints.

You get a copy of your page:

```
nav, hero, about, testimonials, FAQ, footer
fonts and colors matched
```

## If something goes wrong

**"Browser extension is not connected."** Sign in to the extension with the same account as Claude Code. Then restart Claude Code.

**It only built one page.** That is normal. Give it each page address you want.

**Node errors.** Run `node -v`. It must show 24 or higher.
